Val D’orcia- Montepulciano train station
Born and bred in Chianciano Terme, Alfredo spent his teenage years cycling around the Val d’Orcia. Indeed, few know more about the area than Alfredo. After beginning to travel the world, Alfredo fell in love with the art of photography. Soon, this passion took him across the Atlantic to New York, where he studied at the International Centre of Photography. During his time in America, Alfredo was awarded a three-month archiving internship at the world-renowned Magnum agency. After completion of his studies, Alfredo took his expertise home to Italy, securing a position with the photo agency Contrasto.
Fascinated by other cultures, Alfredo’s photography has enabled him to travel the world and meet some incredible people. Indeed, he has travelled to Africa on a number of occasions to perform commissioned work for UNICEF Italy. His photography has been featured in a number of leading magazines including, among others, Sport Week, Vanity Fair, El Pays Seminal and The Australian Photojournalist. His work has also been featured at a range of photography festivals including, among others, Visa pour l’Image in Perpignan, France and the photo biennial Fotonoviembre in Tenerife. On top of these successes, Alfredo’s first book, Lost Angels (2006), bagged the top prize in the International Photography Awards book category.
Having returned to his roots, Alfredo still works for Contrasto and, in his spare time, runs photography workshops in Tuscany. These workshops give him a wonderful opportunity to meet other photography enthusiasts, showing them the most breathtaking vistas in Tuscany and how to achieve the very best from their cameras.
At the heart of Alfredo’s workshops are the Tuscan people he knows and loves, along with his own profound understanding of the magical region. Tuscany is one of the most photographed landscapes in Europe. Its unrivalled beauty makes it an absolute must-see for any budding photographer. Beyond the stunning scenery, Alfredo paints a more detailed picture, connecting his guests with the local people as they go about their daily work. This experience gives photographers a new perspective—one which very few tourists or hobbyist photographers will ever experience. During these workshops, Alfredo shows his guests how to put their cameras to best use, according to the conditions and desired photography style. He demonstrates how to achieve the ideal lighting, how to tackle different subjects and how to perfectly frame an image. Thanks to Alfredo’s experience and talent for storytelling, his workshops deliver more than just great photographs; his guests return home with amazing memories of the real-life stories behind their treasured shots.
To make the most of your Tuscan holiday or Tuscan Photography Tour, Alfredo recommends joining one of his workshops at very beginning of your trip. This way, you’ll be sure to make best use of your camera and new-found skills as you continue your Tuscan adventure.
